I've been watching the Turbo Jam infomercials for months now (we have farmervision so sometimes it's the best thing on. Although come to think of it, it's kinda sad that I didn't just turn off the tv then...) and it seemed like a really fun workout. The infomercial is totally targeted at girls like me with all of the "I had 4 kids and with turbo jam I lost 75 pounds and now look at my awesome abs!" testimonies. Now that I'm not pregnant and I'm past my 6 weeks of taking it easy I wanted to do something. I haven't been a skinny mini for a long time, and have been slowly gaining weight for years now. I used being pregnant as a green light to eat whatever I craved (might as well take advantage of it!) so although I haven't weighed myself in years I'm sure I could easily stand to lose 75 lbs. I have a rough idea of what I weigh thanks to the evil doctor that I went to in town when I moved here who insisted I know my weight even though I told her that it made me depressed and I didn't want to know. I went home crying that day and never went back. I'm sooo glad I have an awesome doctor in a different clinic now.
Anyways, I ordered Turbo Jam and it arrived yesterday. I took my before pictures and measurements. I won't be posting those here cos they are truly horrifying! Looking at those before pictures will hopefully be all the motivation I need. Ack! I still need to weigh myself but I don't have a scale and don't really want to buy one. I'm not going to follow the 10 day rapid results quick start plan cos I'm nursing and don't want to cut my food back that drastically. Plus I think I would die if I did 10 days straight of 45 minute hard core workouts. I don't want to lose the weight fast, I want to take small steps towards a healthier me. I want a lifestyle change that I can maintain. I carry my weight mostly around my tummy and that's really bad health wise. I want to be healthier so that I can live a long full life and watch my kids grow up.
I can do this!
I started by doing the Learn and Burn dvd today to learn the moves and do a shorter, easier work out. I was pretty sweaty at the end but I did it! I think I'll be sticking with this workout for a little while before moving on to the recommended "beginner" schedule of rotating the other 5 workouts since I'm in such terrible shape that I'm sure I wouldn't be able to do them.
I've resolved to be fit before and it has never stuck past a few weeks. I break down and start eating piggy junky food again in vast quantities. I over do my workouts so I feel like crap and give up. But this was years ago, before I got pregnant with my DD. In the time since then I have become a Christian and I am going to be praying for the strength to keep it up this time. With the Lord on my side I can do anything. I'm hoping that posting in this blog will also help to keep me accountable and motivated when I want to give up. DH is on board and has pledged to help keep me motivated as well. He loves me and thinks I'm sexy just the way I am (Thank you Honey!) but agrees with me that we should live healthier lifestyles. Especially since we are role models for our kids now.
That's long enough - time to make supper and then go grocery shopping...
