This Sunday was the CIBC Run for the Cure and after lots of fundraising and training I'm happy to say I DID IT! The run was an amazing experience and I'm so happy with the results. For those of you who don't know my story, my Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer last October. I wanted to support her in every way I could so I decided that even though I'm not a runner that I would do Run for the Cure. I started fundraising as soon as I could register and set up a donation website and the resulting support amazed me. I had initially started off with a goal of 500$ and I thought that I would have to work really hard to raise that much money. I met my first goal in my first day of fundraising and in the end as of run day (October 3, 2010) I raised a total of $3920. WOW! We are absolutely blown away by the generosity of everyone and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I also want to thank everyone for their support. I totally understand that it's just not always possible to donate but even if they were unable financially they were all totally there for me supporting my efforts and cheering me on. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart! God has done such amazing work in my life. I am so blessed and grateful that my mom has successfully completed treatment and is doing wonderfully. And I know that the 33 million dollars raised this year all over Canada from the Run will do so much towards finding a cure.
Overall the run was an amazing experience. I had so much energy on run day and although I did a bit of walking just to catch my breath I ran better than I have ever done before. The route was lovely and the volunteers cheering on the sidelines along the way were wonderful. There were even 2 Taiko drumming groups along the route! The room was filled with joy and energy and it was fabulous. I am so glad that I did it!
