Mother's Day gifts

This year I had a cool custom necklace and charm bracelet made for our moms for mother's day. The scrabble pendants are made by Sunrise Mosaics. Check out her website and become her friend on facebook!

Following the tri-shutter card tutorial on The Crafty Frugalista I created these mother's day cards to go along with the gifts:

And using my Cricut I made some birthday cards to give to our grandmas for their mother's day gift.

Challenge Birthday Card

Ted at Happily Ever Crafter has another fun challenge and here is my creation:

It has the colours purple and green and for my 4 items I used 4 rhinestones. I hope you join in on the fun too for a chance to win a gift certificate from Papertrey Ink!

another new page

My "inspiration" (ie: the page I copied) was this one from the latest Creating Keepsakes magazine by Maggie Holmes:

And this is the page I did:

Not totally wild about it, but I got it done quickly and decided to just pull out things I already had and use up scraps and paste things down as I went. Usually I take forever rearranging and changing my mind about stuff so even though this page isn't perfect (at least in my eyes, as it's not how I envisioned it) it was at least a success in experimenting with a different scrapping style.

Sweet Gift for a Sweet Girl

Inspired by my DD's love of her stuffed bunny and the mini quilt that I made for her to tuck him in I decided to make something similar in preparation for a sweet little girl's upcoming first birthday. Using a charm pack and some fat quarters from the Bunny Hill fabric line by Moda I pieced together this little fat quarter sized quilt and bound it with some chocolate fabric. The floppy-eared chocolate coloured bunny is soooo soft and the pink velvet nose is just the adorable icing on top. I hope she enjoys it!

Here are some photos of the completed project:

And a close up detail shot of the backing fabric - look, there are bunnies!

Eric Carle Room

After falling in love with Andover Fabric's Eric Carle line and the adorable quilt kits from Fat Quarter Shop I've been busy sewing up a storm to decorate the kidlets room in an Eric Carle theme.

First I bought the Brown Bear, Brown Bear quilt kit. This quilt will be for my DS for his upcoming 2nd birthday:

I've also completed some new curtains complete with a blackout liner using some yardage from the Very Series fabric line. I love the stripes! Close up they have that painted look that the illustrations in Eric Carle's books have.

And now I've been working on a Very Hungry Caterpillar quilt for my DD for her birthday (which isn't until December, but I wanted to get the kit while it was available). I'm done piecing the top and have sandwiched it and pinned it and now I just need to do the quilting and binding (which will be red). I flipped over the corner so you could have a sneak peek of the adorable backing fabric. DD has requested that I make her a blanket (or "blanklet" as she says) and really wanted this one so I just couldn't resist! :)

Almost 2 years!

Time flies quickly when you're having fun! It doesn't feel like nearly 2 years ago that I was snuggling my new baby boy

He doesn't usually fall asleep in my arms anymore so I have to savour those rare moments! He's grown so much but he's still my little snuggle baby!

Menu Board

I've been wanting to have a menu board for a while now and I finally got around to making one. I used a large picture frame that I bought at Walmart and then used the Cricut cartridges "Opposites Attract" and "From My Kitchen" to decorate it. You can then use a dry erase marker on the glass and have your menu on display so your family knows what's for dinner this week!

4 New Layouts

I've been feeling inspired to scrapbook and create lately, and having tons of fun using my Cricut. Here are 4 new layouts:

update

I keep meaning to update my blog, I think of things to write and plan them out in my head as I'm going to sleep but during the day things get crazy busy and the kids don't let me have enough time to myself to write. Even now as I'm writing this the playroom behind me is becoming a horrible disaster zone. But they aren't fighting or hurting themselves so I'll try and keep on writing for now!

We've been having some trouble potty training our DD, she's stubborn and kept refusing. Finally last week my Dad decided to give it another try and she cooperated! She's been doing really well so far. We're still using diapers at night but I'm so happy with her progress. She's been three since December so it's about time! Here is a picture of our big girl with her Toola Roola pony that we bought a long time ago as a reward for potty training. Toola Roola was on display in her unopened box in our china cabinet for a long time.

And of course since he loves to copy his big sister here is DS pretending to go potty:

This weekend we went to a comic and toy expo so that I could meet Robert Picardo. I love Star Trek Voyager and the Doctor is my favourite character!

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

"Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" is a favourite book in our house. It was to get the book that my DD first crawled. And DS loves it as well. Last week while singing his ABC's to Grandma and Gido he sang them like this:

"a, b, c, d, e, f, g.... lmnop, q, r, Chicka Boom Boom!"

It was so adorable and funny I just had to make a layout about it! I used the Cricut I recently bought from a friend who upgraded hers, my scanner and my SCAL2 software to recreate the coconut tree and the title fonts exactly. The journalling says "A told B, and B told C, Liam has a cute way to sing his ABC's". I'm really happy with how this one turned out!

Happily Ever Challenged #14

Using the Mojo Monday sketch #169 I decided to make a card to play along with Ted's Happily Ever Challenged #14. This month's challenge is to make a Valentine's day card. You can use any colors, embellishments etc, the only catch is that your sentiment on both the inside and outside has to be in your own handwriting. Here is my card for my DH:

I'm not a big fan of my handwriting and would much prefer for the sentiment on the outside to be a stamp but this will add an extra special touch since it is a little love note for my hubby.

So are you going to play along too? Join in on this fun challenge! You know you have to make a card for Valentine's day anyways so you might as well play along and have a chance to win a 10$ gift certificate from Ted for Papertrey Ink (which is my fave place to buy stamps and matching dies. Seriously awesome company, super cute designs). Check out his blog and the challenge details here.

Some new layouts

I've been in a scrapbooking mood lately and have come up with some layouts I really like!

First one about my two sweeties playing ring around the rosie together. I have this hanging in my scrappy space right now :)

Then I scanned in some old pictures and did a layout about something romantic my DH did for me back when we were first married:

you can read the story behind the pictures in my journalling:

Plus I found the original note that DH had tucked into a CD that I borrowed back when we had first met in university. I thought it deserved to be immortalized in a layout:

I bought a used Cricut machine from my friend who upgraded hers to a bigger one and this is my first layout using the cricut to do the title lettering:

And then I had more fun with my cricut making clouds to use as masks for some misting, plus a swirl and the title letters and star accents. The airplane is a cute sticker.

I'm hoping to get some birthday cards done and I have some ideas on how I can use the cricut in the design. Having lots of fun playing with my new toy during naptime!
